nh-budget-travel-tipsEven though the economy is not as strong as it used to be, this does not mean you cannot take a vacation every once in a while. Here are several tips on how you can go on an enjoyable trip without spending too much money.

Pack Light

You do not have to bring a separate outfit for every day you are enjoying accommodations Ucluelet at the Norah House. Just bring clothes that you can wear several times before it needs to get washed. Jeans are great since they go with anything and you can wear them for several days without them getting dirty.

Walking Wickininish Beach
Wednesday, 19 January 2011 21:34
Wickininish beach is a beautiful spot and only a 12 minute drive from Norah House Retreat. Located within the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve, Wickininish has heated restrooms, picnic tables, a restaurant and a Parks Canada Interpretive Centre (closed for a redesign until March 2011). There are also two great walks accessible from this main parking lot. The first is a stroll up the beach to combers beach which is a 1.5 hour return trip. The second is a trail heading south of the Interpretive Centre to Florencia Bay. Wickininish is also a good surf spot.

Here are some photos we took a few days ago while walking from Wickininish to Combers Beach.

Winter Special for 8 guests
Thursday, 06 January 2011 20:30

Winter Special for 8 guests: $500 for 3 nights

Large winter waves make for spectacular storm watching. One of the best place to watch the huge waves is on the Wild Pacific Trail, a short walk from Norah House Retreat.

Winter also brings great waves for surfing. The surfing has been great lately and I have been in the water almost every day. The large number of beaches between Ucluelet and Tofino means that finding good waves is rarely a problem. The surfing at Wickininish beach was as good as it get a week ago with head high waves, light offshore winds, and blue skies. Wickininish beach is only a 12 minute drive from Norah House Retreat.

Whether hiking, surfing or relaxing, there is no better way to finish a winter day on the west coast than a relaxing soak in the Norah House hot tub.

Hope to see you up here soon,

Tim

Storm Season is Here

Storm

Over the last few days, the seas have been very angry and provided quite a specatular show. Thirty foot waves made there way towards the shore and exploded against the coast.  Note the people in the bottom of the image for size.  Make sure you dont miss the next big storm, it's quite the sight. Today the sun came out and as the swell dies down, it should provide some great surfing conditions.

Humpback Whales viewed from the Wild Pacific Trail in Ucluelet
Thursday, 02 September 2010 00:00

While walking the Wild Pacific Trail in Ucluelet the other day we viewed several Humpback whales just off the shore. We saw numerous blows north and south of us along the coast. We were also lucky enough to see several whale flukes and one spectacular breach. The Wild Pacific Trail always has great scenery and occasional wildlife viewings including seals, sea lions, otters, eagles, and sometimes whales. The bigger swells in the fall, winter and spring also make for great storm watching.

The Wild Pacific Trail is a short walk from Norah House Retreat down a paved walking path. Once you get to Big Beach picnic area you can follow the trail 3.9 kms north along the coast. There is also a seperate loop of the Wild Pacific Trail around the Amphitrite point lighthouse.

We highly recommend you check out this trail on your trip to the Ucluelet, Long Beach and Tofino area!
